Nintendo fans, don’t worry — your favorite games will still be made by real people! Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America, recently spoke about the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in video games. And his answer was clear: Nintendo believes in human creativity not in AI-Generated Games.
In a chat with CNBC, Doug Bowser said that while Nintendo is curious about AI, the company will not replace its talented developers with machines. He explained that the people who work at Nintendo are the heart of what makes their games special. Bowser added that the company is thinking about how AI tools might help with small, boring tasks. But when it comes to designing fun and exciting games, that job will stay with real artists and creators.
This comes at a time when many gaming companies are trying out AI. Some studios have already used AI to make game art or character designs. But not everyone is happy about that. For example, fans of Call of Duty were upset when they found out the game used AI-created images. One strange image even showed a hand with six fingers!
Another game called InZOI lets players use AI to make objects and designs. But the company behind it said they trained the AI using only safe and original materials. Also, the AI in InZOI runs on your own computer, not an online server, which made many players feel better.
Even with all this new technology, Nintendo is sticking to what it knows best: using real people with great ideas to build games. Over the years, Nintendo has created amazing and creative consoles and titles — from the Switch to games like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda. That creativity comes from the hearts and minds of real developers, not robots.
So, while AI might help with a few things behind the scenes, Nintendo fans can relax. Your next Mario or Zelda adventure will still be made with love, not just code.
