Tekken 8 recently released its Season 2 update, but instead of excitement, many players are feeling disappointed. The update introduced a new character, new game mechanics, and changes to the ranking system. However, these changes have left players frustrated, and many are calling for fixes.
The biggest change in Tekken 8 Season 2 is the addition of Anna Williams, the sister of Nina Williams. Along with this, the game introduced a Fight Pass, which allows players to unlock rewards by playing the game. The ranking system also changed, with eight new ranks added after God of Destruction, and all players’ previous ranks were reset. Developers also adjusted how players gain and lose points in ranked matches. Multiplayer matchmaking was improved to ensure fair fights.
Despite these changes, players feel that the update made the game too unbalanced. Many characters received new moves and buffs, making them much stronger than before. The game also introduced more 50/50 situations, which force players to guess whether to block high or low, leading to frustrating and unfair fights.
The reaction to the update has not been positive. Many professional Tekken players have shared their thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), expressing their disappointment. One player commented that after playing Season 2, they now realize they were ungrateful for how good Season 1 was.
Another player suggested that before the Tekken World Tour (TWT) 2025 begins, developers should nerf every character to make the game fairer. A third player was so unhappy with the changes that they even considered switching to another fighting game, like Street Fighter 6 or Fatal Fury.
The main issue with Season 2 is that the new changes have made the game feel too chaotic. Some players have already discovered game-breaking combos and “touch of death” moves, which can instantly defeat an opponent without giving them a chance to fight back. This has caused frustration, as it makes fights feel unfair.
The backlash can even be seen on Steam, where the game’s reviews dropped to “mostly negative” again. Players feel that while Tekken 8 was already a fast-paced game, these updates have made it even more overpowered and difficult to enjoy.
So far, neither Bandai Namco nor Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada has responded to the criticism. However, players hope that an emergency patch will be released soon to fix the game balance. For now, Tekken 8 fans will have to wait and see if the developers listen to their concerns and make changes to improve the game.
